Project Manager for the Future Decision Support System in Forestry
Sveriges LantbruksuniversitetVästerbottens län, Umeå
Previous experience is desired
Department of Forest Resource Management
Do you want to help shape the future of digital decision support for forest stakeholders? We are now looking for a project manager to lead the work of investigating and laying the foundation for the next generation of analysis and planning systems in forestry, the successor to the well-known Heureka system (https://www.slu.se/heureka (https://www.slu.se/heureka)).
About the job
Heureka is currently Sweden's leading decision support system for planning and analysis of forests and forestry. It is used by everyone from large forestry companies and authorities to private forest owners, researchers, and students. However, much has happened since the implementation of the research program that laid the foundation for the system: technology has advanced significantly, data volumes have grown, and user needs have changed. Therefore, SLU is now taking the next step to prepare for future systems.
As a project manager, you will play a central role in exploring how future systems should be designed. You will lead the process of gathering needs, analyzing technical possibilities, and contributing to the creation of a framework for the new decision support system. The position comprises at least 50% of full-time, with the possibility of extending to up to 100% depending on your skills, interests, and the needs of the organization.
Your tasks
- Lead and coordinate the process of investigating and designing a framework for a new decision support system
- Map needs and expectations of stakeholders within the forestry sector and academia.
- Analyze and evaluate technical possibilities, including access to data, AI, and modern IT architectures.
- Contribute to efforts to secure funding for the research program within which the new system will be developed.
- Collaborate with researchers, authorities, companies, and other relevant stakeholders
Your background
We are looking for someone with a strong interest in forestry issues. You have previous experience in leading projects and thrive in a role where you drive processes, coordinate stakeholders, and find solutions. Your personal qualities, such as leadership, collaboration skills, and independence, are important for success in the role.
You need to:
- have a forestry university education or be an engineer, biologist, or equivalent
- Good knowledge of Swedish forests, forestry, and the forestry sector
- Be able to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English
- Experience in project management
- Good problem-solving skills
Preferred qualifications include:
- Doctorate in forest management or a related field
- Experience with forestry decision support systems
